SAN ANGELO, Texas — The search continues for a 17-year-old who assaulted a Juvenile Justice Center officer, then went on the run, along with two younger teenagers. An arrest warrant has been issued for T'Jon "TJ" Walker in connection to the assault and escape.
Monday evening, a large law enforcement presence was noted in the area of the JJC, located on West 19th Street, between North Van Buren Street and North Lillie Street. Shortly after roads began to be blocked off by patrol vehicles, residents of the area of West 19th and Lillie streets were advised to stay inside their homes and lock doors and windows.
It was learned the San Angelo Police Department was helping the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office look for three people who had escaped from the JJC around 7 p.m. Monday.
Walker and Julian Tyce Martinez and Trevon James Damor Wyatt, both 15, were being sought by law enforcement for "violently assaulting a Juvenile Supervision Officer".
Martinez and Wyatt were both detained Tuesday afternoon after a short foot chase with law enforcement officers. The two were returned to the Juvenile Justice Center.
Many questioned why Martinez and Wyatt were identified by law enforcement Tuesday as the search for them continued.
Tom Green County Chief Juvenile Probation Officer, Monica Schniers, said the Texas Family Code allowed for their backgrounds and photos to be released because they broke free and posed a threat to the community at-large. But also because of their ages, they are back in the custody of the JJC.
Walker was in the Juvenile Justice Center for crimes he's alleged to have committed - deadly conduct - discharge of a firearm and theft of a firearm - before he was 17. Now that a third-degree felony, assault of a public servant, was committed he can be charged as an adult.
As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, no updates on Walker were released by the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office.
Walker is described as 5'8" and 144 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. No other identifying information has been given.
Because he engaged in violence to facilitate the escape, the sheriff's office says the public is advised to not approach him and to immediately contact law enforcement if he is encountered.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the TGCSO's Criminal Investigation Division at 325-655-8111.
This is a developing story. More information will be published as it becomes available from the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office.
