SAN ANGELO, Texas — If you have a green thumb, you may be wondering what the cold weather could mean for you.
When factoring in the fluctuating temperatures that mark Fall in West Texas, it can be even harder to figure out what thrives in the brief moments where lows creep just above freezing. However, a local landscaper says many of your plants will be just fine, so long as the mercury stays above 32 degrees.
"The geraniums, your farfugiums or your tractor seeds, your mangaves- they're all fine,” Tam Honaker, owner of Farmer’s Daughter Landscaping, said. “And fifty degrees is just perfect growing weather. We don't have to worry until it gets below freezing. That's really something that's of concern.”
Honaker said most plants that won't survive the cold weather are nearing the end of their cycles. She also said vegetable varieties like spinach and kale will thrive in this season.
