MINNEAPOLIS — With the announcement of new McDonald's Happy Meal toys hitting restaurants the day after Christmas, the fast food giant could be considered the gift that just keeps on giving.

The restaurant chain announced Tuesday it will offer one of 12 beloved Squishmallows characters in each Happy Meal for a limited time. Customers can expect their meals to include cherished characters like Cam and Fifi, or a special McDonald's-edition Grimace, while some patrons can even expect a special "mystery" character in their Happy Meal box.

To get the party started off right, the toys will also feature a unique playlist, which diners can access through a QR code on the box.

“We’re all about connecting our fans to culture and Squishmallows are some of the hottest toys out there right now,” said Tariq Hassan, McDonald’s USA Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer. “This collaboration welcomes McDonald’s and Squishmallow fans alike to enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience with the first McDonald’s Squishmallows Squad.”

The exceedingly popular plush toys were introduced to the market in 2017, and have since earned titles like "Best Selling Toy" and "Toy of the Year."
