TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas — The Taylor County Jail has been placed on lockdown because of several positive COVID-19 cases affecting both staff and inmates.
According to a press release from the Taylor County Sheriff's Office, within the last several days, seven correctional officers and two inmates at the jail have tested positive.
The jail is now under lockdown to limit as much movement as possible within the facility, the release said.
Additionally, Sheriff Ricky Bishop has requested that the State of Texas, through the Taylor County Emergency Manager and the Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District, to have a jail response team test all inmates and employees, approximately 1,000 people, at the jail.
The release said the jail will continue to accept persons who have been arrested and continue to take every precaution necessary to prevent any additional cases of COVID-19.
