9-year-old dies in July 4 collision in Nolan County

The child was pronounced dead at Rolling Plains Hospital. DPS said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

ROSCOE, Texas — A crash in Nolan County Monday claimed the life of a 9-year-old boy.

According to a preliminary crash report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at approximately 10 p.m. July 4 on FM 608, approximately 1.82 miles south of Roscoe.

DPS said an SUV, driven by Caesar Rendon, was headed north near on FM 608 when it crossed the center line and collided with a pickup truck in the southbound lane.

Roscoe resident Roddy M. Alexander was in the pickup truck, along with Bonnie L. Jay. They did not have any injuries, according to DPS.

Rendon's 9-year-old passenger was taken to Rolling Plains Hospital in Sweetwater, where he was pronounced dead. The report says the child was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Rendon had serious injuries and was taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
