LUFKIN, Texas — On any given day, police officers across the nation are dispatched to crime scenes, vehicle crashes and more - but sometimes, they get calls you just can't make up - like a call Sunday about a kangaroo loose on the streets of Lufkin.
In a video released to social media by the Lufkin Police Department, a resident on his way to breakfast with his wife saw what they first thought was a dog standing in the middle of the road, until they got closer and realized it was a kangaroo on the loose.
The dispatcher asks the caller, "Does it look like it belongs there."
The caller replies, "No, it come up the road...I looked and I'm like, 'that's a freakin' kangaroo'...and it starts hoppin' and comin' down the road comin' back from like [inaudible] area."
Call notes from LPD Officer Beaty say "Kangaroo Jack" was seen leaving his home Sunday along Fuller Springs Drive, to the surprise of residents in the area who had never seen him before.
"No wallabies were harmed in the his safe return back to his residence after a Sunday stroll through the surrounding neighborhood," the report states.
Beaty spoke with Jack's owner (and resident manager) who told him her husband accidentally left the gate open after "other circumstances with the star's roommates at the address."
Kangaroo Jack was reported safe and sound at home after his brief hopping spree through the neighborhood.
