The Catholic Diocese of San Angelo announces further restrictions amid coronavirus outbreak

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Angelo announced further restrictions to ensure public health and limit the spread of COVID-19.

Effective immediately, public Masses are suspended until further notice. Sunday masses, Easter Sunday Masses, Palm Sunday Masses, Daily Masses and the liturgies of the Paschal Triduum will continue without assembly. Ministers carrying out the Mass will total 10 people or fewer.

Parking lot Masses and Masses that are celebrated outdoors will be discontinued. 

Catholics are dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday mass until further notice, according to the diocese. 

The diocese encourages parishes to use social media, television or radio to still serve their community and broadcast mass. 

The diocese encourages Catholics to participate in the prayer of spiritual communion, which can be found on sanangelodiocese.org. 

Priests will still make time for individual confessions, according to the Diocese of San Angelo. 

Funerals will be limited to 10 people are fewer, as well as, any other church gatherings. Memorial Masses or memorial services can be offered after the crisis has passed. 

These practices could change in the future as the situation changes, according to the Diocese of San Angelo.
