KIMBLE COUNTY, Texas — Three men are dead after a single-vehicle crash near Junction. The crash happened after an attempted traffic stop by Texas Department of Safety troopers led to the driver of the car took off and led troopers on a chase, DPS said.

According to the preliminary crash report from DPS, the crash happened Sunday afternoon on US Hwy 377, approximately three miles south of Junction, after troopers attempted a traffic stop on a sedan. The car, driven by Exavion Dontelle Mackey, 31, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, took off, starting the pursuit.

Kimble County Sheriff's Office deputies deployed a tire deflation device and Mackey intentionally swerved to miss the device. KCSO deputies deployed a second device to try to slow Mackey's vehicle down safely.

"The driver took faulty evasive action driving off the roadway striking multiple trees and a metal fence," the report stated.

Mackey died in the crash. His two passengers, Silvia Ruiz-Hernandez, 30, of Ozolotepec, Mexico, and Pedro Luis Hernandez Ruiz, 41, who were not wearing seatbelts, also died in the crash.
