SAN ANGELO, Texas — Teacher Appreciation Week takes place nationally on the first week of May.
Too often, many teachers do not get the recognition for all they do for their students and their schools. What a lot of people do not realize is that many of these teachers invest their own time and money when it comes to purchasing things that are essential for their classrooms.
Crystal Lantz is a sixth grade history and English teacher at TLCA Elementary School and was randomly selected for a big surprise. Walmart Store Manager Kathi Hampton and her associates gathered things that would benefit Lantz, along with many other gifts.
In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, Lantz was awarded more than $750 in school supplies and a Walmart+ membership to help her educate her students.
"We just want to appreciate you for everything that you do. We know that it's a very tough job and it takes very special people to be able to do what you guys do day in and day out and we really appreciate you." Hampton told Lantz as she was given her token of appreciation.
Flexible seating is one of the things that Lantz has been asking for to give her students a more diverse way to learn. Along with school supplies, Hampton and her team gifted several comfort chairs and desks. Lantz and her class had no idea what they were in for and it turned out to be something very special for them.
The sixth grade classroom was filled with so much excitement and energy once they were told about the things they received and Lantz suggested they use them immediately.
Teacher Appreciation Week ends May 6.
