TOM GREEN COUNTY, Texas — Tom Green County deputies, along with Texas Parks & Wildlife Department personnel, San Angelo Fire Department and Texas Department of Public Safety, rescued five people from high water Tuesday morning.

The TGCSO said it received a call about a pickup truck occupied by a man, woman and small child that had been swept away by swift water currents in the flooded area of McMillan and Wright roads in northeast Tom Green County.

Deputies arrived to find a truck cab visible in the rising water, about 150 yards from the roadway. Then they saw three men, a woman and a three-year-old child hanging on to a nearby tree as the truck was submerged and swept into the tree.

The deputies entered the water and tried to rescue the victims. During the rescue, one of the individuals panicked, causing the rescuing deputy to struggle to stay above water.

The SAFD arrived and additional personnel were forced to enter the rising water to help in the rescue. Using available swift water rescue equipment, first responders were able to successfully rescue all individuals and extract three first responders.
