SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office is searching for volunteers for its Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU).
The CIU is a division of the sheriff's office that supports law enforcement by helping victims at the scene of a crime.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, pass a criminal background check and have a reliable form of transportation. Lt. Quentin Williams - who supervises the CIU - said volunteers would need to be on call from either 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. during their shifts.
"I hope someone that decides to volunteer, first of all you gotta have a passion to want to do this," Williams said. "You gotta have the heart to wanna help people. There's gonna be good days, there's gonna be bad days, but at the end of the day you know you gave them a hundred percent. You basically saved someone's life and you gave them a second chance."
Anyone interested in volunteering can contact the CIU at 325-655-8111 or by visiting ciucares.com.
