DALLAS — The Dallas County Sheriff's Office is working a major accident on northbound Interstate 35 at Victory Avenue, where a Sherwin Williams truck is hanging off the bridge.
The sheriff's office says it's unclear what led to the crash. WFAA's helicopter was on scene as Dallas Fire-Rescue pulled the driver from the vehicle -- his injuries are unknown at this time. Drivers should expect delays on the road through rush hour traffic.
Dallas Fire Rescue said firefighters were called about the accident at about 2:29 p.m. on Monday at the interchange of North Stemmons Freeway and Dallas North Tollway.
The box truck was hanging off of the Stemmons Freeway overpass with the driver still stuck inside, officials say. Since the driver was inaccessible, officials say they requested the response of the Urban Search and Rescue Team, who conducted the rescue using two DFR aerial ladders after stabilizing the truck in its resting position.
Responders placed one of the ladders on the road below to lift the technicians up to the cab, where they fastened a rope system to the tip of the second ladder and placed it above the cab. Upon reaching the driver, technicians attached him to the harness and hooked him to the rope system to lift him safely out of the truck. He was then taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Another vehicle was involved in the accident as well, officials said, and one person from that vehicle was taken to a hospital with injuries as well.
