ABILENE, Texas — Academic success is being celebrated by two Abilene Independent School District students.
Abilene High School senior Emery Heflin and The Academy of Technology, Engineering, Math and Science senior Aaron Brokovich are one of 34,000 individuals across the U.S. to be recognized as 2023 "Commended Students" by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, according to AISD leaders.
These students were part of a national competition where they were required to submit test scores from the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, and out of all applicants, only the top 50,000 were honored with this title.
A spokesperson for NMSC is proud to see academic achievements, stating, "These students represent a valuable national resource: recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation."
Both Heflin and Brokovich will be given honorary letters to commemorate their success.
