NOLAN COUNTY, Texas — Two people are facing aggravated robbery charges after an armed robbery at a Nolan County game room Nov. 30.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office responded to an armed robbery call at around 8:32 a.m. Thursday morning at the Diamond Knights game room, 518 Avenger Field Road, near the intersection of Avenger Field Road and County Road 274.
“Our investigation revealed that the alleged victim, an employee of the Diamond Knights game room, was approached by a male suspect dressed in a dark blue or black hoodie and wearing large sunglasses and a COVID type disease prevention mask to disguise his face. The suspect produced a handgun and demanded cash from the game room employee. A large amount of cash, reportedly as much as ten thousand dollars, was taken during the robbery,” Nolan County Sheriff David Warren said in a release from his office.
“The male suspect was assisted by a female accomplice who drove him to, and away from, the scene. A witness obtained a good description of the suspect’s vehicle, and the car was located approximately an hour later as one of the suspects was leaving another game room on the east side of Sweetwater. This other game room had not been robbed as yet by the suspects when officers stopped them. The second suspect was stopped in a different vehicle a short time later on Lamar Street in south Sweetwater. The suspects were detained, and the subsequent investigation went on throughout the day and evening hours with various people questioned and searches conducted including the execution of a search warrant at the male suspect’s house. A total of $3,995.00 in cash has been recovered thus far and the clothing worn by the suspect during the robbery. Two plastic toy guns were recovered during the search warrant with one being very realistic in appearance and matching the description of the handgun displayed during the robbery at Diamond Knights.”
The two arrested were Efren Joseph DeLeon, 41, and Amy Cabrera Rodriquez, 52, both of Sweetwater.
Both DeLeon and Rodriquez were charged with aggravated robbery, first degree felony, and were in the Nolan County Jail, as of 3 p.m. Friday, with bonds set at $30,000 each.
“The investigation is ongoing and hopefully more of the establishment’s cash can be recovered. We also want to acknowledge the quick response and assistance of officers with the Sweetwater Police Department and local Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety. This was a perfect example of area law enforcement agencies working together,” Warren said.
