TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas — A Sonora man and an Abilene man both died in a head-on collision in Taylor County Saturday morning.
According to a preliminary crash report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at 4:34 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 20, near mile marker 272 in Taylor County.
The report says a pickup truck, driven by Samuel D. Caldwell, 78, of Sonora, was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20. A pickup truck, driven by Darrell V. Mills, 50, of Abilene, was traveling west.
Caldwell's truck hit Mills' truck head-on and both trucks came to rest in the center median. Mills' truck caught fire and burned completely, the report said.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The crash is under DPS investigation.
