COMANCHE COUNTY, Texas — The driver and passenger of a pickup truck were killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on State Hwy 36, five miles northwest of Gustine in Comanche County.

A preliminary crash report from the Texas Department of Public Safety said the pickup truck, driven by Irvin Said Vasquez Gandara, 23, of Mexico, was traveling southeast on SH 36. DPS says "due to the rain, wet road, and possible intoxication, the driver lost traction and left his lane of travel striking the endcap of a guardrail to his right."

After hitting the guardrail, the truck traveled south through a ditch, then hit a tree.

Neither Gandara or his passenger, Misael Rubi Deanda, 27, of Gustine, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Both died at the scene.

The crash is under DPS investigation.
