Two people on motorcycle killed in Abilene crash

A motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Hwy 80E Tuesday evening. The two riders on the motorcycle died as a result of the crash.

ABILENE, Texas — UPDATE (4:15 p.m. April 27): The two people who were killed in the crash on Hwy 80E have been identified as Jason Michael Rigstad, 46, and Rebecca Mae Barker, 32, both of Abilene.

The Abilene Police Department said next of kin notifications have been made.

ORIGINAL STORY: Two people died Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle collision on Hwy 80E.

According to the Abilene Police Department, at approximately 7:31 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a major crash in the 2500 block of East Highway 80.

A motorcycle was traveling east in the 2500 block of Hwy 80E. A pickup truck was traveling west on the same highway and started turning south toward the Texas Loop 322 ramp, causing the motorcycle to collide with the truck.

The two occupants on the motorcycle died from their injuries. Next of kin notification is pending and APD said it will issue an update at a later time.

The driver and sole occupant of the pickup, a 34-year-old man, was not injured, the release said.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash at this time. The crash remains under APD investigation.

The APD said there have been seven traffic incidents resulting in nine deaths in 2022.
