CALLAHAN COUNTY, Texas — An unidentified man died Monday morning in a two-vehicle collision in Callahan County.
A preliminary crash report from the Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened at approximately 7:25 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, on State Hwy. 36, two miles east of Cross Plains.
The report said an unidentified Hispanic man was driving an SUV and traveling east on SH 36 and a pickup truck driven by a Coleman man was traveling west. The SUV crossed into the westbound lanes and hit the pickup truck.
The SUV caught fire as it and the pickup truck came to rest in the roadway, the report said.
The man in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. Alexander Isbell, the driver of the pickup, was taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene with serious injuries.
The crash is under investigation by DPS.
