TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas — Union Pacific says an investigation has been opened after about two dozen rail cars derailed around 8 p.m. Tuesday east of Trent.
Mike Jaixen, Union Pacific senior manager - communications, said in an email no injuries were reported in the incident.
Crews from the railroad company are responding to the incident in Taylor County.
Social media comments question whether strong winds from thunderstorms in the area were to blame for the derailment. The National Weather Service reported wind gusts as high as 58 mph, associated with thunderstorms in the area, were measured at Abilene Regional Airport Tuesday evening.
