Warming up for the first March weekend in West Texas

The first weekend of March looks to have calm and warm weather.

TEXAS, USA — This past week of weather featured everything from heat, smoke and even some reports of wintry precipitation. The first weekend of meteorological spring, thankfully, looks to be calm weather-wise.

A strong cold front brought cold and dreary weather Wednesday and Thursday, but Friday has been a beautiful day for the Big Country and Concho Valley. Friday started out fairly chilly, but we are all enjoying the spring-like weather now.

Any Friday evening plans you have to celebrate the first weekend of March look to be absolutely beautiful. It will also be a great evening to watch the Mavericks play the Celtics on FOX West Texas.

We'll have an inactive weather pattern and winds out of the south, so we'll see warmer than average temperatures, but no chance of any rain. Northerly winds brought smoke from the fires in the Panhandle earlier this week, but with our southwesterly winds we shouldn't see any smoke in our area.

If you want to help out with the heartbreaking situation in the Panhandle, there are places to give across the Big Country and the Concho Valley to help the firefighting efforts.

We are honored to team up with Water Valley FFA to help out the families affected by the fires in the Panhandle!

Saturday and Sunday will have some above average temperatures, but it won't be record-breaking thankfully like the Big Country saw earlier this week.

Monday, we are monitoring a chance for showers and thunderstorms. Right now, it looks like most of the activity will be off to our east, but we could certainly use the rain here.

Despite the rain this past week our most recent drought monitor shows abnormally dry conditions returning to the Concho Valley. Hopefully, meteorological spring will bring some needed rain to West Texas.

Have a great weekend!
