SAN ANGELO, TX — "We became licensed foster parents back in 2015 and we got our first placement which was Karma and Grace back in 2015. They became part of our family back then and they came back to us in 2017.” Rebekah Beltran said.
“I'm six and Grace is four and my baby brother Logan is going to be two,” Karma Beltran said.
“When we found out they had a brother we wanted them all together and wanted him to come into our home as well. They're family and we're family and we wanted to keep the family together.
We had to become licensed, we had to take some classes, w e had to keep up our continuing education, we had CASAs come to our home to advocate for the children, and the children had an attorney. There was a lot of paperwork. And we had to prepare for actual adoption day, we had to meet with an adoption attorney and keep the kids up to date with their medical and dental and provide a loving a nurturing home for them.
We're just really excited and overjoyed,” Rebekah Beltran said.
In the Concho Valley, 13 children were adopted by nine families. when it comes to adoption, Amanda Hamilton with Child Protective Services says there are several myths people believe....and those simply aren't true.
“People think that you have to own your own home, or you have to be married, or that it's expensive and honestly, adopting through child protective services is free. many children qualify for adoption subsidies which help with expenses throughout their lifetime so there are a lot of benefits. They just need to ask questions and not be afraid,” Hamilton said.
