TOM GREEN COUNTY, Texas — An Odessa woman was sentenced to 12 years in prison by a Tom Green County jury after pleading guilty to a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, 4-200 grams.

In a media release, 119th District Attorney John Best's office said a pickup truck driven by Brandy Dawn Todd was pulled over during a routine traffic stop for speeding Dec. 21, 2023, by Texas Highway Patrol troopers, Alejandro Morante and Colton Wilson. Morante noticed syringes inside the truck with what he suspected to be liquid methamphetamine. He searched the pickup truck and found marijuana, Xanax, the syringes and a pink notebook with a drug ledger.

When Todd was searched, Wilson found 196 grams of methamphetamine concealed in the leg of her pants.

After Todd pleaded guilty to the charges, she elected to have the jury decide her punishment. During the trial, the State presented evidence related to Todd's other pending charges for possession of methamphetamine in Williamson County and for smuggling undocumented migrants in Kinney County.

In the release, Best's office said, "Methamphetamine continues to plague our community and feeds the majority of felony cases we see in our office. Our office is committed to working closely with all of our law-enforcement agencies to aggressively prosecute drug dealers and hold them accountable. As this case demonstrates, our community won’t tolerate drug dealers either. We want to thank the jury for their service and commend the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol for their good work and thorough investigation of this case."

In addition to the 12 years in prison, the jury assessed Todd a $10,000 fine.
