Mayor Anthony Williams re-elected for a second term

Mayor Williams beat out his opponent Cynthia Alvidrez with 81% of the vote.

ABILENE, Texas — Incumbent Anthony Williams was re-elected as the Mayor of Abilene for his second term on Election day.

Williams won the vote with 81%, his opponent Cynthia Alvidrez 19%.

According to the Taylor County Elections Office, total voter turnout for Taylor County was 39, 880.

"I'm so thankful to the citizens of this community, not my first race, but this is certainly been the most difficult race. Mainly because of the navigation of COVID-19. I  can't think of a more challenging time than to lead a city during a global pandemic. I'm known to block walk and knock doors and this environment didn't allow that to happen." said Williams, shortly after the polling results came out.

Mayor Williams said he plans to focus on economic development, COVID-19 concerns and is opening the conversation on how Abilene residents can be a better neighbor in his second term.
