Vehicle parade hosted in Abilene honors Martin Luther King Jr.

Dozens of cars gathered at the Abilene Convention Center Monday to honor the late MLK.

ABILENE, Texas — The City of Abilene traded their traditional MLK walk, for a vehicle parade in honor of the late Martin Luther King Jr.

Dozens of vehicles gathered at the Abilene convention center Monday afternoon to show their support for the MLK Precession which was hosted by a local non-profit group "Let us Breathe".

"We just started in 2020 in light of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor and all the other injustices we saw unfold, that sparked a fire in us to want to do something and be a part of the change," said Shaunte Flemming, organizer.

Artists were on-site and helped decorate the vehicles with MLK quotes, and stencils. Mayor Anthony Williams was in attendance as a keynote speaker and the precession was led by the Abilene Police Department.

"I am very proud of Abilene and I applaud the effort to make sure the dream continues to be realized in Abilene," said Mayor Williams.
