Multi-agency efforts lead to arrest of known fugitive Friday

SWEETWATER, Texas — The Sweetwater Police Department arrested a known fugitive Friday, May 14, following a standoff at a residence in the 700 block of Bowie Street in Sweetwater.

According to an SPD press release, information regarding, including the whereabouts of a felony wanted subject, identified as Cesar Resendiz, was received Friday evening.

Information from an anonymous tip reported Resendiz was hiding at a residence in the 700 block of Bowie Street.

Resendiz was wanted and evading capture for multiple felony warrants from the 32nd Judicial District Court, according to the release.

SPD officers, Nolan County Sheriff's Office and Texas Department of Public Safety responded and were engaged in a standoff with Resendiz, who was in the residence.

The Abilene Police Department SWAT team was called and responding when Resendiz was talked out of the residence and surrendered to officers, the release said.

A search warrant of the residence yielded narcotics and a stolen firearm.

Resendiz was arrested for the following offenses:

  • Manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance Penalty Group 1 >4>200 grams.
  • Tampering with identification numbers.
  • Warrants for aggravated robbery.
  • Bail jumping
  • Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Maria Resendiz was also arrested for the following offenses:

  • Hindering apprehension
  • Tampering with identifying information
  • Manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance Penalty Group 1 >4>200 grams.

Ricco Lujan, Resediz's known associate, is still wanted by the 32nd Judicial District Court.

Anyone with information about Lujan's whereabouts should contact Nolan County Crime Stoppers at 325-235-8477. Callers can choose to remain anonymous.

Lujan is believed to be armed and dangerous, according to the release. If anyone sees him, they should contact law enforcement immediately and not try to apprehend him.
