COKE COUNTY, Texas — UPDATE (9:23 p.m. July 19): According to the Texas Forest Service's Texas Wildfire Incident Response System, the Stone Wildfire in Coke County has now burned approximately 400 acres. The fire is now 40 percent contained.
UPDATE (8:04 p.m. July 19): The Stone Wildfire has burned 100 acres according to the Texas Wildfire Incident Response System. They say it is 25 percent contained at this point. There are still multiple volunteer fire departments on scene near Mountain Road in Coke County.
ORIGINAL STORY (5:48 p.m. July 19): Volunteer firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a large grass fire at a property on Mountain Road in Coke County Friday afternoon.
The plume of smoke from the fire could be seen from US Hwy 87N and FM 2034.
Sterling County, Water Valley, Bronte, Robert Lee and Coke County emergency vehicles were seen responding to the scene. Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Parks and Wildlife and Coke County Sheriff's Office were seen as well.
FOX West Texas reached out to the Coke County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Forest Service for comment, but as of 5:45 p.m., no information was available.
