Operation Brown Bag continues in Tye

Community-wide effort to help feed Tye's children.

TYE, TX. — Operation Brown Bag is an effort by the entire community of Tye, Tx.

Chief of police, Jay Strong, encountered the local issue when he saw a young man eating out of a trash can years back.

“When I went to him I said, hey what's going on and he told me, officer Strong, I have no food at home, you know my parents aren't there,” says Strong.

For chief Strong, the duty of an officer never stops.

"With a community effort, we teamed with Tye Baptist church, our citizens, some of our city leaders and we formed operation brown bag,” says Strong.

What started this May, soon helped feed over 1,200 meals to children just this summer. Once school resumed, the mission continued by providing lunches for the weekends.

Since then, a board of directors for Operation Brown Bag came about, and it’s on its way on becoming a nonprofit.
