Public health emergency prompts changes at sheriff's office

Tom Green County Sheriff's Office patrols will begin answering non-emergency situations by phone in response to public health emergency.

TOM GREEN COUNTY, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott' s public health disaster was followed by an order issued by San Angelo Mayor, Brenda Gunter continuing the disaster declaration due to a public health emergency.

In order to reduce exposure to citizens and employees to the coronavirus (COVI-D19) the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office has implemented new strategies effective immediately.

The patrol officers will be answering non-emergency situations by phone. Situations included are:

  • Misdemeanor theft
  • Harassment
  • Lost property (excluding firearms)
  • Family disciplinary actions
  • Other non-emergency calls which can be resolved over the phone

The Tom Green Sheriff's Office will continue to respond to priority and emergency situations.
