TOM GREEN COUNTY, Texas — The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office and Jail announced a new procedure has been put in place to help stop the spread of the coronavirus and protect the health of staff and inmates.

The new procedure states, that anyone entering the facility will be screened, this includes staff, arresting officers, and those who have been arrested. The screening will consist of a questionnaire suggested by the Centers for Disease Control and each person will be subject to a temperature reading.

There will be officers at each entrance and anyone showing symptoms or with a fever of 100.4 or more will not be allowed to enter.

The same screening process will be used for people who are arrested, however in the event that the person shows symptoms or has a fever of 100.4 or higher, that person will be given a mask and referred to the jail medical department. Once screened, the person will be taken to the hospital if the medical department deems additional testing is necessary.

If a person who is incarcerated  shows symptoms related to COVID -19 the same protocol will be used. Once the person is cleared by the hospital they will remain in isolation until symptoms subside or cleared by medical staff to return to population.

Lobby visits and the Education and Rehabilitation Plan have been suspended on recommendation of the Texas Commission of Jail Standards.
