Tye PD honors local Veterans with a home lunch parade

West Texas first responders deliver lunches and salutes on Veterans Day

ABILENE, Texas — Tye Police Chief Jay Strong wanted to make sure local Veterans didn't go unrecognized this Veterans Day.

"These folks have given so much to their nation, that pandemic or not we should give back," said Strong.

The Tye Police Department usually holds a breakfast to honor their veterans, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, they decided to improvise in a big way, by delivering lunches to those veterans door steps followed by a caravan of first responders waving flags.

"They made sacrifices that no viruses could ever stop. We recognized their service. and we are proud to have the Flying J Pilots donate the meals and our women's quilt society donates the quilts. We owe it to them.. they are the reason we get to go do what we do every day" said Strong.
