ABILENE, Texas — House Bill 3 was signed into law on June 11, 2019. The school finance reform bill will be in effect for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.
Wylie Independent School District is being awarded over $3 million this school year. $1.6 million of the funds will go towards a pay raise.
"Teachers, and counselors, and our nurses, librarians are all seeing that raise, but really this is going to benefit everybody, everybody is our district is going to see a better than average raise this year,” Wylie ISD superintendent, Joey Light.
The district is hoping for an average six percent raise this school year.
"There's a lot of things that we as we're a growing district that we're looking towards in the future that it will help us do as far as some of the projects we're working on,” Light said.
Wylie ISD is finalizing their budget towards the end of August.
