Wylie ISD food services staff is providing for kids where they can

The staff is continuing to make breakfast and lunch for kids during the week

WYLIE, Texas — The Wylie community has always been close. Even during a global pandemic, this community bounds together. Neighbors helping neighbors remains the identity in Wylie.

The Wylie ISD food services director, Melanie Brewer, says that "Wylie has always been that way and it just continues on in this situation, neighbors helping neighbors, it's great to see."

Brewer says seeing the kids everyday makes the staff overjoyed. "We love seeing the kids come through. We get notes from them and little Facebook comments that mean the word to my staff. It really makes a difference to them."

Once Wylie was closed due to COVID-19, Superintendent Joey Light put the plan into fruition.

"Immediately Mr. Light wanted to make sure our kids were fed. During regular school hours, parents depend on it and kids depend on getting that food so we wanted to make sure that happened."

The team serves to-go breakfast 7:30 to 9:30am and lunch from 11:30 to 1pm on Monday through Friday at Wylie.

"Overall it's been a very positive response. We are really greatful for the community that we live in. We're trailblazing a little bit and having fun doing it, Brewer said."
