SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Angelo State volleyball team is no stranger to success. The program is coming off a stellar 24-5 season and finished 16-1 in conference play.
Head coach Chuck Waddington is entering his 15th season with the program and has enjoyed the journey of watching his team grow.
“So, we started off, we had a long way to go and we got there in a few years and we've kind of maintained that. So that's hard, you know, but we put in the work. We recruit hard, we want great kids in our program. We want them to really represent us in the classroom, on the court, and in the community. And I think that as long as we have the right kind of kids, we're going to do the things we want to do every year,” Waddington said.
The Rambelles have acquired some new additions to their team, such as freshman Kaila Garnett who comes from Plano West High School. Garnett has been adjusting to the collegiate level and says the process has been more mentally challenging than physical.
“High school I feel like you can get away with a lot more than you can here, which I really love. It’s very disciplined here, there’s no slacking off ever,” Garnett said.
Heading into the 2022 season the Rambelles are sticking to the plan they have every year, which is to win the conference, go to the NCAA tournament, and compete for a national championship.
Graduate student Grace White is walking into her last season as a middle blocker and plans to give it her all.
“We've made it to the AVCA National Championship and then we've had the conference champions under our belt as well. So, I'm just excited to see what we'll do this year. I'm just going to give it my all literally every single game. I’m just going to act like it’s my last and just leave no regrets on the court,” White said.
The Rambelles begin their season at noon on August 26 at home against Southern Nazarene.
