The Angelo State softball team is setting the tone early in the season with an overall record of 10-1. The Rambelles are currently on a nine-game winning streak, with many members of the team leading the country in stats.
Earlier this week, the Rambelles moved up nine spots in the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll and plan to continue reaching the number one spot. Travis Scott, head coach of the ASU softball team says the team's chemistry so far has been great.
"We had a great Fall together and that's continued on to this Spring. It shows in the way we play; the girls have a good time playing with each other. It's just been exciting to watch the way they are swinging the bat to begin the year." Scott said.
Since the beginning of the season, the Rambelles have already hit 23 home runs and are now second in the LSC conference behind UT Tyler. Eight of those home runs belong to junior third basemen/pitcher Paxton Scheurer, which is second-best in all of Division II. Paxton believes simply having fun with your team builds its way to success.
"We're all so close, we're the closest team I ever had. We love each other and I think it shows on the field. We have a lot of laughs and I think that it helps us in the bad times," Scheurer says.
In the game of softball, many times good pitching is the key to winning close games. Sophomore pitcher Torrey Hogan has been impacting the Rambelles heavily this season, allowing only two hits when ASU faced off against St. Edwards. Hogan who was injured last season feels it's great to be back playing at her full potential.
"It was really difficult last year both mentally and physically but being surrounded by great teammates, they make it a lot easier to come back. I'm just excited to play and help my team out," Hogan said.
The Rambelles are set to host an Angelo State Invitational this weekend against Texas A&M International and New Mexico Highlands.
