Bronte Lady Longhorns look to add to lasting legacy

Tuesday, the team will face the Harrold Hornets in a rematch of last year's state semifinal, where Bronte fell in four sets.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Saturday, Bronte defeated Water Valley 15-8 in the fifth set to win its second consecutive regional championship.

The Lady Longhorns traveled with hundreds of supporters, most of whom sat silently after Water Valley won the fourth set. Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" blared over the loudspeakers in San Angelo Central High School's gymnasium. While the Water Valley faithful sang along, nerves kept Bronte's supporters from contributing a single note.

At the end, the Lady Longhorns stood behind a banner which read "2024 Regional Champions." Now, a matchup with 2023's 1A runner up will test the team's resilience.

Bronte's coach Carol Moore says this team's chemistry makes it one of the best she's ever taught. Tuesday, her Lady Longhorns will face Harrold, the school which ended their season at the same point in 2023.

Bronte will battle for a chance to play for a seventh state championship.
