VERIBEST, Texas — A familiar face will be leading Veribest athletics for the foreseeable future, as the school announced head football coach Justin Morris will be leading the charge for the Falcons.
Morris has been with the school district over the past four years, and becoming an athletic director has been his dream.
"I think as a coach, if you get that opportunity, this is definitely an opportunity that you hope opens up and you look forward to stepping into that role," Morris said.
He spends his weekday afternoons during this time of the year helping coach the junior high and high school track team. From his first-hand experience, he said he looks to bring in a culture that embodies the spirit he encounters from these students every day.
"We are going to go out there and give it our best, and that is the way these kids are. They are a bunch of kids that have fought hard all year," Morris said.
Morris believes this job will not overwhelm him, and while this is a new hat he must wear throughout the year, he believes it is his time to leave his mark on Veribest.
"I know that everything is, you know, playoffs and wins and losses and stuff like that and that is what a lot of people see, but a lot of times building a program and a culture is more important than that. That is what I am focused on. That is what I am going to do here for these kids and the kids after them," Morris said.
For now, Coach Morris focuses on track season and getting every athlete up to par for their upcoming competitions, but by Summer 2024, he will have a handful of sports for which to prepare his students.
