MILES, Texas — The second day of practice for 1A through 4A schools and the Miles Bulldogs are off to a strong start with first-year head coach Jayson Wilhelm.
Due to the pandemic, coach hasn't had an ideal situation since he was hired in May but he's making the most of this opportunity.
"Our expectations are really high... I try to relay that to them everyday. The kids are amazing, the talent is there and they get along so well. I'm excited for what this season is going to bring."
Coach Wilhelm is coming from district rival Menard. He believes the district will will be competitive again this season.
"Our goal is that we are going to be in the mix, we will be right there in it... if we get better every week that part will take care of itself."
He believes that football will be the unity the communities in West Texas are longing for during this time.
"To have the lights on again on Friday nights, small town football brings out that excitement and energy level... the community rallies around football. It's going to be nice to have those things back in Miles again."
The future is bright for Miles football with West Texas native, Jayson Wilhelm in charge.
"It's an exciting new beginning for myself personally but to be around the quality of kids we have here and the coaches: boys are girls, it's going to be a fun year."
