Timothee Chalamet arrives at the 81st Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif.

AUSTIN, Texas — ESPN's flagship college football pregame show College GameDay is set to take place in Atlanta ahead of Saturday's SEC Championship Game, where the Longhorns will try to avenge their only loss of the season against Georgia.

One of the show's most fascinating and often most anticipated aspects is who will serve as that week's celebrity guest picker, with the choice almost always being a notable alumnus or fan of the school hosting.

For example, when Texas hosted the show in October ahead of the team's regular season matchup with Georgia, UT alum and multiple-time PGA Tour and two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler served as the episode's guest picker.

So some fans expressed surprise when the show announced that this week's guest picker would be ... Timothée Chalamet.

Make no mistake, Chalamet is one of the most popular actors in the world at the moment, and his presence anywhere will almost certainly draw attention. But the choice is a puzzling one for many, as Chalamet has no apparent ties to either Texas or Georgia. He was born and raised in New York, and went to college at Columbia University and NYU.

Chalamet has had a huge year in entertainment. He starred in the musical 'Wonka," which came out in December 2023 and then starred in the blockbuster "Dune: Part Two," which came out earlier this year.
