SAN ANGELO, Texas — This past weekend featured hazy conditions across much of the Lone Star State.
This was because of Saharan dust that made its way thousands of miles across the Atlantic riding a strong jet stream. The greatest effects were felt to the southeast towards the Hill Country and into central and eastern Texas.
However, some dust made its way through the upper atmosphere into West Texas. The picture below was taken Friday evening in Brady.
Although the dust has dissipated across much of the area, another round is forecast later this week. Another plume of Saharan dust is moving across the Caribbean and will reach the shoreline of Texas by Wednesday. Some of this dust may make its way into West Texas Wednesday through Friday, with the greatest concentration of dust coming Thursday.
Again, hazy skies are expected with skin, nose and eye irritation possible. People susceptible to allergies may also feel their sinuses acting up.
If you have any pictures of the dust, send them to 325-655-6006. We may just use them on the air.
