City of Abilene planning for severe weather conditions

A warming center, as well other resources will be available beginning Sunday, Feb. 14.

ABILENE, Texas — The City of Abilene announced Friday it is preparing for inclement weather and working to assist anyone who needs it in the coming days.

According to a City press release, a warming center will be available beginning 8 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14 at Rose Park Senior Cente, 2625 S 7th St., for residents whose homes do not provide adequate heat or shelter in extreme weather conditions.

The warming center will be available until at least Monday, Feb. 15.

The Abilene Police Department will be assisting vulnerable residents and connecting them with available resources, the release said.

The Abilene Shelter will remain open for emergency operations, including temporary shelter for stray animals.

 Solid Waste Services will collect trash Saturday for customers whose collection days are Thursday or Monday for customers who missed pick up Thursday, Feb. 11. Saturday's collection includes Dyess Air Force Base. Customers are asked to have bins out by 6 a.m. Saturday, Feb.13.

Solid Waste Services trash collections and CityLink transportation will determine the ability to operate Monday morning and will make the announcement on the City's website and social media pages.

City of Abilene offices will close if the Abilene Independent School District cancels classes Monday, Feb. 15, according to the release.

The Abilene Public Library, South Branch at the Mall of Abilene, 4310 Buffalo Gap Rd #1246, will close Sunday, Feb. 14.
