TEXAS, USA — This weekend looks to hold a lot of changing weather.
The last freezing temperature recorded at San Angelo Regional Airport was Feb. 18, 2023, and March 19, 2023, at the Abilene Regional Airport. However, we could see another one as soon as next week. We could be looking at a chilly end of October, folks.
Some folks across the area are already seeing a taste of below average temperatures across the Lone Star State with a cold front moving through the area.
There are temperatures in the 60s north of the cold front and temperatures in the 80s to the south. For folks in the Big Country especially - you may want something to keep you warm for Friday night football.
With the cold front moving through the area, I am also monitoring the chance for thunderstorms this evening.
As of now, the weather data suggests that most Friday evening plans should stay dry, but thunderstorms after midnight will bring lots of rain to the area through Saturday early afternoon. It is not impossible to see rain before midnight Saturday, but the coverage will increase in the Concho Valley early Saturday morning.
Considering this is in addition to lots of rain already observed across the area, flash flooding could occur during the day Saturday.
During the day Saturday, our cold front will retreat northward as a warm front. This cold front really lacks upper-level support which is why the cold front will initially have problems surging southward. Saturday will be a warm day in San Angelo, but the further north you go the cooler temperatures you can expect.
However, Sunday morning, the cold front will have the upper-level support it needs and push through West Central Texas.
I expect we'll reach our high temperature in San Angelo Sunday morning early and after the powerful arctic air arrives in the region our temperatures will fall steadily throughout the day
Waking up Monday morning, it will be some of the coldest temperatures we have seen in a while. It doesn't look like widespread freezing Monday morning, but you'll definitely want to pay attention to your pets and plants.
Even though the temperature will be above freezing, blustery north winds will result in wind chills in the 20s. Yep, you read that right. It will be chilly, so be sure to stay warm, folks.
With the drastic weather changes coming to West Central Texas, be sure to stay weather aware. We'll have your latest weather updates here on FOX West Texas.
