SAN ANGELO, Texas — Records were broken in both Abilene and San Angelo Monday morning as the mercury plummeted to -1 at both regional airports.
Records more than 100-year-old were broken in both locations and it was the coldest temperature ever recorded this late in the season in San Angelo.
These record lows came after Valentine's Day snow totals in excess of 10 inches in both Abilene and San Angelo.
This healthy snowpack and mainly clear skies overnight will cause temperatures to plummet once again. Tuesday morning, temperatures will be in the single digits for many West Texans, with wind chill values near zero in the Concho Valley and well below zero in the Big Country.
A wind chill advisory is in effect for West Texas through noon Tuesday.
Tuesday afternoon temperatures will be a bit warmer, with many locations topping out near freezing with mainly cloudy skies.
