SAN ANGELO, Texas — UPDATE: The Lake Nasworthy Homeowners Association July Fourth fireworks show has been officially canceled.
HOA president Ray McKim III confirmed the cancellation via email Thursday night.
ORIGINAL STORY: With many events being canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lake Nasworthy Homeowners Association announced on its Facebook page Tuesday that Saturday's July Fourth fireworks show will happen.
On Monday, the City of San Angelo issued a release saying all Lake Nasworthy parks and beaches were closed July 3-13 and that it was in discussion with the HOA.
In its post, the HOA offers tips on how to safely enjoy the fireworks from the safety of homes and vehicles.
Here is the post in its entirety:
"Lake Nasworthy HOA would like to announce at this time we will still have a firework show.
The City of San Angelo as well as our homeowner’s association want to have the fireworks show, we just want to find a way to keep everyone safe and help to slow the spread of the corona virus. We can’t stress enough to everyone to please practice the six foot social distancing, avoid large gatherings, stay in your group only.
If you can view the fireworks from your home or neighborhood, please stay home to watch. If you can’t then by all means come out, but remember the parks will be closed so pull over only where it is legal to do so.
Treat the show like the old drive in movie theaters, stay in your car, sit on the tailgate keep to yourselves. Be respectful of other people’s property, be respectful of our law enforcement, we have a great police department in San Angelo and they will be out helping with traffic and congestion.
As always, take your trash home with you and most of all, love our neighbors and our country and enjoy the show! If anything changes we will keep everyone informed."
