The site was the scene of a three-vehicle crash that claimed the lives of two people including a 10-year-old child on Oct. 31.
A vehicle traveling on March Road disregarded the stop sign at the intersection the US-87N intersection in Grape Creek, according to the crash report from DPS.
Following the fatal crash, GCVFD reached out to the local Texas Department of Transportation office and Tom Green County Commissioners to request a solar-powered flashing LED stop sign and rumble strips to be installed to help increase awareness of the upcoming intersection.
The VFD says though the measures shouldn't have to be installed to remind drivers of an upcoming highway intersection, it is appreciative to state and county partners the timely installation.
"This incident has caused sadness for many in our community, and we hope that this stop sign project will help heal those affected and raise community awareness on safe driving practices," the department said.
This is a developing story. We will provide updates as they become available from officials.
