Travis Griffith wins police chief runoff, Mike Hernandez likely to retire from San Angelo PD

Police chief-elect Griffith said he looks forward to working to heal the community. Lt. Hernandez said his likely plan is to retire after 33 years with SAPD.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Travis Griffith won the runoff election with 52.6% of the vote. He credited his team for helping him through the election cycle.

Lt. Mike Hernandez ran for police chief in 2016, and lost to Frank Carter. At the time, he said he wasn't ready to walk away from the San Angelo Police Department. Now, he said, he feels ready and will likely retire.
