SAN ANGELO, Texas — West Texans don't even have to get out of their car to be tested for COVID-19.
Shannon Medical Center set up a drive-through testing location at the corner of Beauregard Avenue and Oakes Street in downtown San Angelo, that allows people to stay in their vehicles while medical providers evaluate them.
Screening and testing is available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
It costs $25 to receive the initial evaluation. If, after the evaluation, the provider determines the patient needs to be tested for coronavirus, the patient will be tested on-site. In order to meet the requirements for testing (based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's criteria), a patient must show clinical features of:
1. Fever or signs/symptoms of lower respiratory illness (e.g., cough or shortness of breath).
AND
Have an epidemiologic risk such as:
1. Having had close contact with a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patient within 14 days of symptom onset;
2. A history of travel from affected geographic areas within 14 days of symptom onset;
3. An individual(s) with risk factors that put them at higher risk of poor outcomes.
OR
Show clinical features of fever and signs/symptoms of lower respiratory illness (e.g., cough or shortness of breath) requiring hospitalization.
AND
No source of exposure has been identified.
The COVID-19 test if $55, if required. Officials at Shannon said the hospital can also bill the patient's medical insurance.
