SAN ANGELO, Texas — According to a release from the City of San Angelo, the 2020 Southern Drag Boat Races, planned for July 11-12, will move forward as a private event and will not be open to the general public.

Organizers are refunding the public access tickets already sold. The decision comes on the heels of Gov. Greg Abbott's direction last week limiting large gatherings in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Texas, the release said.

Middle Concho and Spring Creek parks, along with the rest of the parks around Lake Nasworthy, are closed through July 13. The section of the lake that heads toward Spring Creek and Middle Concho parks will be closed to public access during the event.

The only people in attendance will be the race participants, officials, event staff and sponsors.
