SAN ANGELO, Texas — Easter weekend 2020 will be remembered for quite a few things.

For one, the coronavirus has drastically changed the way we celebrated Easter this year, with many church services being held virtually. For West Texans, it will also be remembered for strong to severe thunderstorms that blew through the area.

The National Weather Service confirmed Tuesday that an EF-1 tornado touched down at 4:05 a.m. Sunday, April 12 - 1.3 miles NNW of the town of Melvin in McCulloch County. The tornado had peak winds of 95-110 mph and traveled a total of 5.2 miles, with a maximum width of 300 yards. The tornado lifted at 4:13 a.m., 5.9 miles NE of Melvin.

The storm was reported to have killed one calf and destroyed several deer feeders. It also knocked over and uprooted large oak trees. No one was injured.

In San Angelo, the National Weather Service confirmed that 70-80 mph winds blew through the Bluffs and Angelo State University Saturday evening. These locations were where many tree branches were tossed, and some damage to roofs were reported.
